The Crystal Odyssey

Wah.. HUh...

“What is this place?” Drax asks, voice wavering as he steps from the shadows. “What are those?!” He shouts, igniting his lightsaber and pointing it at the various bodies, floating within the bacta tanks. His gaze then shifts to the thing, floating above Omega. “And that! What is that!” Rage building, Drax focuses back on the hologram of Lord Wrath. “Before this goes any further, I want answers NOW!!!”

And so it begins...

The chamber beyond the crack in the wall is a tunnel that leads, of course, downward. You come to a sharp drop off where a makeshift rope has been attached to the wall and hangs over the edge. It’s darker here than in any of the other areas you’ve visited so far. A chill breeze hits you from directly in front. How can there be a draft in an underground level? As you advance, you have the sneaking suspicion that you’re being watched. You can hear the distant sound of trickling water. Your glowrod illuminates the room with an eerie glow that reveals most cracks and crevices in the cavern, when your light shines across something that doesn’t belong. Your glowrods illuminates what appears to be a meter-high statue resembling a gargoyle in one of the corners. (roll) A noghri! Not just one, but five! In a flash, you are assaulted by aliens that look like gargoyles. They are short and blindingly fast. As the chaos of combat ensues, you can’t be sure, but the frightening faces of these warriors look like they might have been inspired by the armored mask of a certain Sith Lord—or vice-versa. Their guttural growls raise the hair on the back of your necks and you feel like you may have finally bitten off more than you can chew. Undead creatures were one thing, but trained assassins! Just when they get into ‘pounce’ range, you hear a primeval scream behind you. Barely standing on one leg and leaning against the cavern wall, TeeO stands with Maya running up close behind. His loud yell has stunned everyone into silence as he whispers, “Get…out…of …the …way…” You aren’t sure who he’s talking to for a moment, you or the noghri, until he limps up between you and squares off with the assassins. “I SAID MOVE!” With that shout, all five noghri are lifted off of the ground and simultaneously start making choking sounds.

Clawing at their scaly throats, you stand in awe of the raw power as TeeO, awash in tears and anger, throws all five beasts over the edge of the cliff. You watch as they plummet into darkness squealing like some baby pigs. The only way to tell when they stop their plummet is watching blue lightning arc between their corpses. You didn’t see any force lightning come from TeeO but now you look back and you just can see arcs of blue light jumping from finger to finger on his outstretched hand. TeeO collapses into Maya’s arms as she looks up to you. Tears also fill her eyes. “Just go.” That’s all she needs to say as you leave TeeO with her and make your way down the rope into the inky blackness. Upon reaching the bottom of the cliffs, your way gets a bit lighter with the help of phosphorescent fungi that line the cave walls. The crumpled remains of five squat gargoyle like creatures litter the base of the cliff’s face. The looks on their collective faces, even on one as universally unattractive as the noghri, can only be described as horror. You share a look with each other as you both simultaneously decide not to talk about it. Moving forward into the depths of the cavernous canyon, the sounds of water flowing pick up. Just up ahead, past a gathering of rocks, you make out a figure in a flowing scarlet robe of septsilk. It is a lifesized hologram of him talking to someone you already know. You recognize him from messages on the holonet news service. Darth Wrath.. He is talking to by a stern-looking female whose lightsaber gives a red tint to their surroundings and who you already are very intimately familiar with. Inquisitor Omega. There is a glint in Wrath’s eye and a chilling smile on his lips, as if he already knows more about you than you know about yourselves. Just behind Wrath, an incandescent object floats in the air, seeming to grow out of a small cube strapped to Omega’s forearm. As you arrive, you catch the last few words of Wrath talking to the enigmatic floating blot above Omega’s arm. “Yes my master. I…” The holo of Wrath notices the eyes of Omega. His words echo off of the slick stone floor in this part of the cavern. As a matter of fact, this whole area has been carved out into a makeshift laboratory. Bacta tanks line one whole wall and computer terminals blink in the relative darkness. Inside the bacta tanks, each labeled Revan Analogue Delta, Revan Analogue Zeta, and Revan Analogue Psi, float several beings, or rather, one being in several states of growth and development. (roll) Upon closer examination, one of the bodies floats face up revealing a face that looks very much like DRAX! Shock and awe reverberate through your gut, so much that a stifled scream escapes your lips. Omega looks in your direction but Wrath speaks. “I am Lord Wrath, and, like you, I once thought myself a hero. During and up to the battle of Endor, the brave men and women I fought alongside called me the ‘Rue-Jax Kang’ as we fought in epic conflicts for the corrupt Republic. But after I was almost killed on board the second Death Star, my given name lost it’s meaning for me. “These are dark times, and I know that you’ve suffered great losses, that you wrestle with the same concerns of virtue and compromise that I did as a Jedi, the same concerns that have plagued the conscientious since time immemorial. Surrender yourselves to the Alliance. I promise your treatment will be gentler, that a new day is dawning, and you might even be given the chance to serve me. Surrender yourselves—or face your destiny.”

(If you wish to ask questions from your hiding spots, you may, or you can jump in…whatever)

Hold on

“Hold on!” Raymus yelled at Drax. “I’m coming with you. Just give me minute here.” Ryamus finished bandaging TeeO up and then looking up at Maya. “Do you think you get TeeO out of here on your own?” Maya gave a “ok” nod but with a “not a good idea” expression on her face. “I can’t let Drax go in alone.” Raymus said as he was standing up, fatigue was starting to show on his face. Looking into Maya’s eyes he gave her a reassuring smile. As he ran off in the direction that Drax went, he yelled back. “The force be with you.”

I'm going in!

(Assuming Ray will see to TeeO, I’m going to take a look around at the relics and artifacts. Since it was all undisturbed, I’m being very sensitive about traps. I’ll take 20 on my rolls here if possible. Assuming I don’t blow us up, I want to snag anything that might look useful or that pops out. Throw them on the sled(If we were able to get it down here) With 7A. Maya should probable keep an eye open for any ambushes. Afterwards, I’m going to inform the others that I intend to go in after Omega. Maybe make a search your feelings check. (Hate relying on that for every room, but…) They can get TeeO out and wait for me topside, or come with and help.)

Here’s the Story version:

Drax looks down at TeeO as Ray sees to the boys wounds. “I’ve got to go after her.” He says.

“Just hold up a second!” Ray snaps, without looking up. “We got TeeO. We should evac out of here on the double!”

“You don’t understand. This place…” Drax started.

“This place is an abomination.” Maya interrupted.

“Yes it is.” Drax answered. “But it’s also linked to me. I’ve got to find out the truth aqbout what I am and where I come from. Look, You two take TeeO and get out of here. I’m going in.”

Without another word Drax enters the tunnels, in search of his destiny.

In the blink of an eye it’s all gone. Ray is kneeling on the floor to the left, and Drax has his hands held up in front of him to the right. Maya stands above a 4 legged beast at least as long as two people. She looks back at you both, “Dreambeast…it tried to turn you on each other. Your training served you well.” As she spoke, the beast disappeared into the ethereal plane. “That’s just a projection of it. It must be close…real one’s bigger than a krayt dragon. Hopefully, it’s not down here with us.” “MAYA!” The voice of TeeO! You make your way into the next room via the only visible door. The door is completely open. In fact, burn damage all along the 4-meter-wide entrance appears to have enlarged it. A pulsating glow within lights up the darkened room. Inside, you find a spherical energy cage floating on repulsorlifts. The glow comes from a force field that surrounds the portable prison, and behind the bars lies a beaten and bruised TeeO. Maya hits a lever on the wall releasing the boy. “It wasn’t my father Maya…he lied…tell me she’s lying! ” TeeO seems hysterical. Maya tries to calm him as if she’s his mother, stroking his head and calming him with soft words. “Who put you in the cage TeeO?” “Omega!” Maya looked back at Drax and Ray. Turning back to TeeO, he was pointing to a hole in the wall. You find yourselves in a long room, 12 meters wide by 36 meters long, with the chamber forking to the right about 20 meters in. Leaning against the smooth walls are cases containing fascinating and rare artifacts and weapons that were of interest to the Jedi. It is surprising that most of them seem untouched. The most glaring features of the room are the far wall and floor, which have crumbled away to reveal a cavernous opening that leads into a dark tunnel. This obviously wasn’t part of the room’s original design and seems to be a consequence of the orbital bombardment.

Moving on...

After things settle down and Drax gets to his feet, Maya peers over her shoulder as she leads the way down to sublevel 2. “This conversation isn’t over…” She says as she disappears around the corner.

Exploring into the second sublevel, things get noticably different. You aren’t sure if the chill in the air is due to the dark side, the depth of this level, or from your comrades over things unspoken. The restored power doesn’t reach to this level so you’re back to glowrods. The passages have slipped into disrepair but you did notice fresh footprints in the dust just at the base of the stairs. When you reach the bottom of the stairs, you notice Maya has pushed ahead down one of the hallways and is already forcing doors open. “Refresher!” She calls back to you, uncaring of whether or not you’re stealthy. You watch almost in slow motion as she opens the next door and her eyes widen. As if she’s looking at something shocking. From out of nowhere, a lightsaber flies to her outstretched hand and she dashes into the room with a battlecry.

You both dash down to the open room and peer in, weapons drawn. You walk into the impressive chamber, crossing a bridge than runs over a clear and soothing stream. To your left is a large pond, beyond which is an artistic elevation made of simple mud and rock. Disharmoniously, dead vegetation and dead bodies surround it all. As you take in your surroundings, your companions suddenly disappear from view, and you are alone. Solid walls seem to have materialized out of nowhere and separated all of you, at the same time blocking the entrance from which you came. You feel a deep sense of dread. Everything in your core tells you to turn back. (check your messageS)

It's not what it looks like...

Drax gazed up at Maya. A look of both hurt and disgust on her face told Drax that all was not well. “Maya, it’s it’s not what it…” Drax started to say before Maya cut him off.

“How long have you been working for them!” She snapped. “Have you just been manipulating me all this time? And what about you, Ray? Is anything either of you told me true?”

“Look. When we get out of here, I promise we will tell you everything. Trust me, all is not as it seems.” Ray offered.

“No Fracking Kidding!” Maya yelled in response.

Drax forced himself up to a standing position. “Look… What’s important is that we find TeeO. After we get him out of here and safe then I promise to tell you everything. Don’t let the darkside blind you to the truth. We’re on your side.”

Daken sends a message...

Drax lies there on the floor passing into and out of conciousness as Ray works feverishly to get his bleeding under control. Maya, meanwhile, tries to get Seven out from underneath a ton of rubble. A datapad that had been lying inconspicuously in the middle of the floor blinks to life. Daken’s picture appears in it and he seems to have some news…

Hello? Ah, I see both Ray and Drax are there… don’t look so well. Well, finally…I have awoken from my own slumber and have some news for you both. Thank the stars you are both prevents me from having to transmit this information twice. Also, I don’t remember what I’ve already told you both so I’ll send it all again. Never can have too much information! Take care you two and see you back on the boat!

Ray and Maya eye each other as the datapad screen fills with information. “Here are some things I thought I’d send you since you have asked me to research for them.”

“I searched the picture of Drax you sent me versus the Rebellion database and the Alliance database and specifically against the picture of Emperor Mobodu’wan you wanted me to. And while there are roughly 62.3% point variations and similarities, which is unusually high from the standard deviation, it is not as concise or even close enough to be declared a match. In other words, they are similar but not the same.”

Subject CHI project

Subject CHI was the codename for D.R.A.-X, was preceeded by D.R.A.-O and D.R.A.-P, but when they failed within 5 years, subject CHI was the first such subject to last more than 10 years. Thought to be the perfect subject, D.R.A.-X was unfortunately lost to an accident in 15 ABY onboard the TCS Chimaera. Steps are thought to be taken to institute a Subject PSI taking the base formula for CHI and making only minor modifications. More information available in information room of Imieci Spire. Technology interwoven from Mondu Codru incident.

“A day that will live in infamy.” Amongst the Codru peoples. In 3 ABY, newly crowned King Bodo Mobodu’wan, having just lost his queen to an assassination, turned his allegiances to the Sith people in the Codru-Sith war and called upon his teacher, Darth Sidious, to bombard his own planet annihilating thousands of innocents. To make matters worse, the incident was not needed for suppression of a revolt, on the contrary, he bombarded his own planet as a ruse to trick an old group of friends into undertaking a mission on his behalf. During the bombardment, which incidentally lasted 3 days after the group of friends left, opened up a deep rift in the ground that revealed an old set of mines which had been converted to tombs around 3800 BBY to house an ancient brotherhood of Sith masters. It was here that the long lost remains of an ancient Dark Lord of the Sith was found by Bodo and, using a key procured from De’Sha Ducatiss, previously given to him by the Dark Woman, he opened a specific tomb which housed a collection of Sith holocrons.

Akari, Argus Human male living on Cloud City. Now Deceased. (The rest of the personal information seems to fit, referring to him as a gambler and shady businessman plus a transmission is found) An intercepted transmission to Argus Akari 2 days before your fathers disappearance.

Argus, I hope your assignment is without surprise. I will be coming soon for the boy’s training. He is ready according to your reports. We feel others have their eyes now on the system and we have to move fast. I don’t like being out- maneuvered. And I don’t like the reports that you have grown close. He is your assignment, not your son. I didn’t pay you 25,000 credits to ‘raise him proper’. And now you have the Rebels on your scent? Perhaps if you weren’t losing large sums of money on Cloud City you wouldn’t be raising flags. Get your things together and be ready to move. You don’t know who we’re dealing with here. And don’t even think of talking. I’ll send someone for you in a few days.

“And that datachip you gave me Drax, it was basically a recording of everything our groups been doing since we faked our deaths on the Assidious! I’ll play it if you want to but you’ve already lived it!”

“Oh, and you’ll both be pleased as a drunken Quarren to know that Darth Wrath has a project of his own! Those slaves that Jolok’s been selling him, he’s creating an entire army of those replicant droids with…if only I could find the control key…Oh, Omega is an HRD and another one is that Twilek girl I saw on security tapes from Jolok’s palace. Don’t understand why…”

Daken slips off into babbling as the datapad goes dark.

Seven's response

Seven spins a tale complete with sound effects:

The blast from quake sent Drax flying. As he regained his footing, he fumbled for a glowstick to light the now pitch black Archive room. “You okay, 7A?” he asked the mangled droid.

“Of course not, master!” The droid replied from a corner of the room. The hover sled had flipped over on top of the mangled droid and now it laid trapped beneath it. “Please do not leave me here master!” 7A pleaded helplessly.

Ignoring the droid for the time being, Drax eased his way through the near darkness to the door to the library. “Dast.” he whispered a curse. Whatever had caused the qauke had also slammed the blast doors shut. It would take longer than Drax wanted to spend, cutting his way out with his lightsaber. ” Guess we’re going down…”Drax turned toward the the cart, with a sigh. “I’m coming. Calm down.” He urged the frantic droid.

A flutter in the shadows caught his eye. “Who’s there?” He said instinctively going for his lightsaber. “It’s me Master! I’m over here!” 7A shouted desperatly. “Be Quiet,7.We’re not alone In here.”

Suddenly, Raymus’s voice comes across Drax com link. “Drax, what’s your status?” Drax fkicked the switch to the com to the off position. Ray and Maya would no doubt come running, butr he needed as much silence as possible to focus on the room’s other occupants.

A gurgling issued from one end of the room. A groan from another. Igniting his lightsaber, Drax looked turned himself so that the sounds wee on either side of him. Drax felt a what felt like a banthas kick hit him sqaure in the back, sending him flying in one direction and his glow rod off in another. Fortunately, he was able to hang onto his lightsaber. “Gruhhhh…” A voice mumbled behind him, from the darkness.

Regaining his footing, Drax spun to face his opponent. In the faint light emanating from the fallen glow rod Drax could at last see one of his assailants. Impossibly, it was one of the many corpses that littered the room, a dug, that shambled in the murkey green light towards Drax. “Wurrrrr…” A sound echoed to Drax’s right, his only warning of the blow coming his way. Drax barely managed to duck the Vibro axe as it swung where his head had once been.

Rolling to the side, Drax turned to see the mutilated corpse of a a wookie hefting the axe high for another swing. The fact that the undead creature only had one arm seemed of little consequence. Drax dodged the next blow easily enough sidestepping the swing, causing the vibro axe to bury itself into the floor. Taking advantage of the wookie as it struggled to free the weapon, Drax swung his lightsaber. The blow connected at the beast’s elbow severing it. The dead wookie, seemingly oblivious to it’s injuries, immediatly lunged at Drax, falling onto the young jedi. “ARGH!” Drax screamed as rotten teeth dug into his shoulder. Drax found himslef pinned to the floor, The wookie continued to gnaw on his shoulder, while the dug pinned his arm down, preventing Drax from using his lighstaber.

Instinctively, Drax called upon the force and push out, sending both creatureds flying through the air and slamming into the ceiling above, before falling back down. Drax barely managed to roll out of the way as the wookie crashed down beside him. Without hesitating, he immediatly went to work chopping at the creatures, insuring that neither would be rising to attack him again.

Finally, Drax allowed himself to stop. Injured and out of breath, Drax disengaged his lightsaber and stumbled back to where th glowrod had fallen. “Hssssss…” came another sound from behind him. “Oh come on…” Drax said with a shrug as he turned to face his new opponent. Across the room, emerging from the darkness was a trandoshan. It’s eyes had rotted away and half of it’s jaw had been blasted away. Drax saw none of this, though. Instead, his gaze fell to the blaster rifles it held in either hand. Drax barely had time to ignite his lightsaber, when the creature opened fire.

Drax had practiced deflecting blaster fire, with TeeO back on the Resurgence. Unfortunately, he had far from mastered the skill. The first blast he deflect off into the darkness, while the next caught him in the leg, bringing him to one knee. Desperatly, he swung the lightsaber at the wild hail of blaster fire. Fortunately, the trandoshan wasn’t nearly the shot in death that it proabably was in life. Several shots ricocheted off the walls and into the darkness. Desperate for mor ecover Drax hoisted the corpse of a fallen zabrak up and used it as a shield. Still the assualt continued for what seemed an like hours until suddenly, the blaster fire stopped. Peering over the corpse/shield, Drax found that the trandoshan had not moved and contiued to pull the triggers to the two weapons. “What’s a matter?” He said cockily, as he rose to stand. “Did you little guns overheat? Here lemme help you with THAT!” He shouted as he lunged at the trandoshan, slashing at it with renewed vigor. Seconds later he stood over yet another dismembered carcass.

“Is that it?!” He shouted angrily. “Come on! What else have you GTTTT!” Drax felt his windpipe close. Dropping his lightsaber to the ground he clutched desperately at his throat fight for air. From the shadows stepped a kel dor. It breathing apparatus gone, and half its head missing. It held up it’s hand in a pincing gesture. Drax knew at once that this was the creature responsible for all the dead corpses strewn throughout the room. Unable to breath, but unwilling to just lay down and die, Drax barrelled into the kel dor with all his weight. The monster easily side stepped him, but had lost it’s grip on him in the process.

Drax landed in a heap next to the corpse of a female gungun. A blaster pistol held firm in her unfeeling grasp. scrambling for the weapon, Drax turned on his back to fire at his opponent, but befor ehe could get a shot off was assualted by sparks of blue lightning pouyring out of the creatures fingertips. Wave after wave assualted Drax as he lay prone on the ground. The monster had widened the distance from Drax, wisely learning from the mistakes of it’s minions, even as it continued to pour electricty into the young man.

Drax felt himself beginning to lose conciousness, It was meer chance that his gaze returned to the gungun. Unoticed to him before, Drax’ eye caught sight of the bandoleer that crossed the corpses chest. resting on it where three grenades. In his agony Drax couldn’t tell what kind they were. It didn’t matter. Fighting off the pain, Drax reached over and ripped the pin from one of the grenades, figuring one would be enough to set the others off. With a last push he reached out with the force and ripped the belt from the corpse and slung iut at his assailant. The lightning stopped as the monster considered the object thrown at it, giving Drax just enough time to pull the corpse over him to shield him from the blast.

The explosion rocked the room sending debris and body parts flying. Drax lay there for several moments, trying to decide if he wanted to join the others in their eternal slumber. Thoughts of being brought back as one of those monsters snapped him back to reality. Climbing out of the pile of bodies and refuse Drax soon found his lightsaber, still ignited laying next to the remains of the trandoshans corpse.

Hobbled he fell to one knee as the Blast doors slung open allowing light to flow into the room. “Drax!” Rays voice shouted from the doorway. “Are you okay?” Drax noticed the metallic taste of blood in his mouth. “Hey guys.” he said, a cocky smile beaming inspite of the blood trickling down from his lips.

What happened?

As Raymus applied a first aid kit to Drax, he questioned Seven. “Seven, what happened?”
